The most religious parade I’ve seen

The most religious parade I’ve seen

After class on the journey back to our apartments, I found myself in the middle of a huge religious walk. Thousands of priests, alter boys, nuns and tourists with shopping bags paraded around the streets. What was going on? The whole city sang church hymns and bells were ringing. After my initial reaction to take a million pics, I wanted to find out what was going on. A local informed me that it was 40 days after Christ’s death. My next question was how do I participate? Many tourists were in the celebration carrying candles out of the cathedral. I was told to walk around the church to the back and there I could join. Ummm…no! I was misinformed. Perhaps a joke on the silly American… Even though I was not in the “parade” I still was marveled at the impact it was making on the locals and tourists in Florence.
