26 May Blog Post #3
During our free day in Florence, Maisi and I had the hardest time trying to decide what we wanted to do from the ones that were listed. We wanted to do everything! Eventually, after talking and trying to figure out a plan, we ended up saying we would go to three places even though we only needed to do one. We planned on going to the Pitti Palace, the Boboli Gardens, and the zoological museum. So, we got out of bed and hiked our way to the palace. We worked our way through the palace taking in as much as we could. We saw the royal apartments where the royals would live their day to day lives. We walked through the art gallery and honestly that was a little much for the eyes. There were different colors and people staring at you everywhere you turned. It was hard to navigate to see everything as we had to turn around and retrace some steps to make sure we didn’t miss anything. We saw some beautiful frescoes and sculpture work on the cielings of these apartments.
Then, when we had had our full of the inside, we went outside to traverse the Boboli gardens. That hill could put Cardiac Hill at Mansfield University to shame! When we finally made it to the top, we saw some of the most beautiful views I have ever experienced, and I’ve been to the top of the Eiffel Tower at night. It was breathtaking and just to image the amount of history all around us was astounding.
Honestly, that is something I have loved experiencing during this trip. The history, I mean. It’s like hearing one giant story of how Italy became the nation we know it as today. The free day was great, but it was only a small step in the whole journey of this trip.
