22 Jan I am not surprised…
I am not one bit surprised that I have yet to be even slightly disappointed by one meal that I have had in a restaurant here. From the baby shells to the tagliatelle, every sauce has been perfect and every pizza I have tasted is far better than anything I have had at Dominos or Pizza Hut. Considering all of this, my expectations of food outside of the restaurant were pretty high as well. I was able to go to the market here in Florence and experience their fresh groceries. I was able to see what mozzarella should really look like and taste the deliciousness of unprocessed ham. All of the bread was freshly made and even the chicken had a better taste too it. Oddly, my favorite thing I have had so far is without a doubt the fresh eggs. They are literally the best eggs I have ever tasted and would annihilate Boozel breakfast eggs any day. Yesterday we took a coking class taught by chef Marcello. Here we learned a bit of the history of food. We also were able to observe and assist with cooking fresh bread, flan, tagliatelle, tortilini, and tortiloni from start to finished and by start to finish I mean we actually saw the transformation of the tortilini from eggs and flour all the way to our clean plates after we tasted everything! The American in me had to go to a fast food place at least once so I stopped by McDonald’s. They have some pretty cool stuff on their menu like pasta and spinach bites but I chose to get chicken nuggets and french fries. I was not too impressed with the fries (they were too greasy and extra salty) but the chicken nuggets were great and tasted a lot “less processed” than the ones from home.
