27 May Friends in Firenze
For my free day, I decided to stay in Florence and explore the city a little more. The day started out inconspicuous enough with a classic trip to Scudieri for a pastry and cappuccino. Amanda and I decided to take a stroll after that and headed towards the Arno. We took streets we didn’t know and found some treasures.
Our first find was Ditta Alberto Cozzi, a shop where a man binds books, marbleizes paper, and handmakes pens and leather goods like journals. I was only going to buy two pens but when I saw how beautiful Amanda’s gold embossed initials looked on the journal I had to splurge.

After pizza and souvenir shopping, we came across a theater showing movies in English with Italian subtitles. We both love movies so we decided to see the movie playing: “Solo.” The theater was gorgeous and had velvet seats. There were gold statues and a dome above us, with upper level seating. It looked like a place where operas would be performed.
Our next stop was Caffe La Terrazza. It was a rooftop bar near Piazza del Reppublica where we got an aperitif.

Afterwards, we searched for a place to eat a big plate of pasta. We found one. About halfway through dinner, we noticed the familiar name of Dante written underneath a quote on the wall. The restaurant we were in was called Sasso di Dante. We hadn’t even realized. They had a copy of the Divine Comedy and quotes from Inferno Canto X and Purgatory Canto XIV. In honor of Dante, we got a delicious dessert.
Best. Day. Ever.
